Access Sport is looking to appoint a Community Coach for our Changing Sports Cycling Programme in Greater Manchester.

We believe every young person should have:

  • Access to a bike.
  • The skills and confidence to use it.
  • Somewhere local, safe and exciting to enjoy riding.

We work across 3 areas:

  • Facilities: We build exciting, accessible, and inclusive places to ride that are accessible to underserved communities and are free to
    use, with equipment on-site.
  • Community Outreach: We deliver specialist cycle training to inactive, disadvantaged and disabled young people in local schools.
  • Clubs: We empower local people to create cycling communities by developing regular and inclusive access to equipment and training.

The role will deliver across our outreach and club workstreams, delivering accessible and inclusive cycling sessions using BMX as a tool to engage and build confidence amongst inactive, underserved and disabled young people. The post holder will deliver outreach to local schools and groups at sites where we are developing a community club.

Building on our partnership with Trafford Council, this role will support the development and activation of the new BMX pump track at Partington Sports Village. This investment comes as a result of the council’s award from the government’s Levelling Up Fund.

The role will also support the delivery at the Little Hulton pump track in Salford, which Access Sport built in 2021.

The role will have opportunities to support the Cycling Delivery Manager to aid the development, growth and sustainability of community cycling clubs in and around Greater Manchester.

  • Plan and deliver accessible and inclusive cycling sessions to inactive, underserved and disabled young people from local schools, SEN schools, Pupil Referral Units and local groups in line with Access Sport’s vision and values.
  • Inspire and engage disadvantaged and disabled young people from underserved communities.
  • Support developing community cycle clubs to deliver engaging and inclusive BMX sessions.
  • Ensure all sessions adhere to health and safety regulations and the correct actions are taken when reporting/managing accidents and injuries.
  • Safeguard the welfare of participants during sessions.
  • Maintain a consistent line of communication with Access Sport and relevant schools and clubs. Monitoring, evaluation and communications.
  • Assist with the monitoring and evaluation requirements for the programme, using online monitoring platforms such as Upshot and Donorfy (training will be provided).
  • Keep an up-to-date record of session attendance and assist with the surveying of participant progression and development.
  • Contribute to internal reporting requirements such as creating case studies, films and news stories for website/social media.
  • Utilise digital tools and social media to share updates on project developments.
