Third series of The GM Moving Podcast launches with focus on Right to the Streets

The third series of The GM Moving Podcast launches today (Thursday 11 May) with GM Moving lead Eve Holt in conversation with more than 50 guests across the eight-episode series.  

The Right to the Streets series explores the roles we can all play, as people, community groups, and organisations, working together to make our streets and public spaces more welcoming, safe, and joyful for women and girls. 

Host Eve Holt will take listeners on a journey around North Trafford, hearing experiences, actions, and ideas for change from community leaders, residents, local service providers, politicians, commissioners, sports organisations, artists, and many more. 

The series, produced by MIC Media, explores a whole-systems approach to addressing gender-based violence, so all women and girls have the freedom to move about our streets, parks and public spaces without fear. To help create the conditions in place for everyday moving and active lives for all. 

Listeners are invited to join the conversation by submitting a voicenote sharing their own experiences, stories and ideas for change. These are then included in future podcast episodes.

“It’s been an inspirational journey putting this series together covering everything from crime and active travel to sport, culture, urban design, and the media.” 

The GM Moving Podcast launched during the covid-19 pandemic with a focus on the sector’s response and recovery to help more people return to or start their physical activity journey.  

Last summer, series 2 looked at Greater Manchester’s Local Pilot and the place-based approaches across the ten boroughs to create the conditions for people to move more regularly.  

The current series is one element of the Right to the Streets project led by GreaterSport, Trafford Council, Open Data Manchester and other GM Moving partners - thanks to funding from the Home Office for Safer Streets. 

The first episode features GM Deputy Mayor Kate Green, Jim Faulkner, a Superintendent with Greater Manchester Police, and Nazir Afzal, former Chief Prosecutor for the North West of England and then Chief Executive of the country's police and crime commissioners.  

Plus Eve is in Gorse Hill to speak to Ruth Hannan, chair of Gorgeous Gorse Hill, and Grace McCorkle, co-founder of Collaborative Women UK.
