GreaterSport is starting 2020 with a renewed spring in their active soles.

From the beginning of February, Hayley Lever will lead the GM Moving agenda and GreaterSport as CEO, reporting in to GM Moving Executive Group and GreaterSport Board.

Hayley Lever

Continuing the theme of alignment, we can now announce new people joining the GreaterSport team and a refreshed structure that will support Hayley and the eco-system to continue our progress towards the ambition of 75% of the population moving and will help us together, deliver at pace against the GM Moving 12 priorities.

Eve Holt joins the team of experts in the role of Strategic Director. Eve is a long-time local leader and supporter of our work, and a well-respected leader in Greater Manchester more widely. Eve will work alongside Hayley in the system leadership and engagement work; aligning all areas to ensure that people ‘moving more’ is central to our policies and system architecture. Eve will work with system wide leaders, including our transport, environment, housing, and health sectors to enable our population to become more active.  Eve may be new to the organisation, but she is no stranger to the place; a long time GM Moving champion, with huge experience on place leadership and movement building. She will be a great collaborator adding to the team’s ethos of partnership working.

Richard Davis-Boreham will continue to lead the Local Pilot as well as support finance, audit and risk in the organisation.  Matt Stocks is maintaining his focus on Start, Develop, Live and Age Well and will also lead on governance, HR and legal for the organisation. Beth Sutcliffe will continue to lead GM’s Walking Ambition whilst integrating strategic leadership of the digital transformation, research, insight and evaluation and marketing teams.  Eddie Asong will be the Finance Director.

Hayley is optimistic about the future:

“I am grateful and excited to take on the CEO role of GreaterSport alongside the GM Moving Executive lead role. GM Moving is critical to Greater Manchester’s ambitions, and GreaterSport is critical to the success of GM Moving. I am hugely proud to be part of this team and the wider GM Moving leadership network. It will be a privilege to continue our work together in this dual leadership role, surrounded by fantastic people who are passionate about our shared ambition”.

Mike Perls, Chair of GreaterSport said:

“The GreaterSport Board is honoured to be partnering with Sport England and the whole of Greater Manchester to collaborate on the GM Moving strategy and we are looking forward to another great year. There is lots to build on. However we should all be very proud of the record breaking Active Lives results. Our focus will continue to be on changing lives and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to move more. Supporting people, growing talent and being a great place to work has always and will continue to be our priority”.

Steven Pleasant, Chair of GM Moving Executive Group said:

“Partners across Greater Manchester are making huge progress together to deliver GM Moving. 2020 brings big opportunities as we continue to work together to reduce inactivity, address inequalities and deliver on the priorities in GM Moving. The GM Moving Executive will continue to lead the way, share our learning locally and nationally.”

Mike Diaper, Sport England Exec Director Children, Young People and Tackling Inactivity concluded:

“Greater Manchester is making great strides in the implementation of whole system approach to addressing inactivity and engaging more people in physical activity and sport. Sport England are delighted to continue our journey in discovery and action together, with the new leadership team at GreaterSport, as we find out what it takes to bring about culture change, system change and behaviour change at a population level.”
