By GM Moving | 08 September 2022 | TAGS: walking, funding

GM Moving and Salford CVS on behalf of 10GM are thrilled to announce that the next phase of our GM Walking Fund is now open for applications. The aim of the fund is to empower and facilitate community groups to embed more walking in Greater Manchester this autumn and winter, so that it becomes a normal part of everyday life in all communities.

A pot of £85,000 will be made available in the form of grants that will support the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector to develop and deliver walking initiatives that:

  • Encourage local communities to become more active by incorporating more walking into their everyday routines
  • Support the recruitment of ‘walking champions’, made up of organisations, community members and volunteers
  • Are designed with long-term sustainability in mind.

Small grants of up to £2,000 and medium grants of up to £5,000 will be available to VCSE organisations which can demonstrate their intention to work with individuals and communities that may not be already active, in particular, people with disabilities, people from diverse ethnic backgrounds, people from lower socio-economic groups and those with long-term health conditions.

Given the health and care focus of our current work, we're particularly interested in receiving applications from organisations and projects that can link in with the health and care system.

Application deadlines to be aware of

  • Small grants – Friday 2nd December at 12.00pm
  • Medium grants – The deadline to apply for a medium grant was 12.00pm, Friday 21 October 2022. Decisions expected late November 2022
  • All projects must be completed by 31st March 2023

How to apply

Please see http://www.10gm.org.uk/gmwalkinggrants.html for full details on the fund, timescales, eligibility criteria and how to apply.

Meet the Funder sessions for those who want to know more

Salford CVS and GM Walking will be hosting two (virtual) Meet the Funder sessions, to discuss the small and medium grant programmes in more detail, how to apply for a grant, and tips and tricks for writing a strong application. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.

The sessions will be held on 29th September and 4th October, you only need to attend one.
