GM Moving and MIC media are nominated in the Best Podcast category with GM Moving’s Right to the Streets movement shortlisted for the Martyn Hett Inspiring Manchester Award.
The GM Moving Podcast released two series in correlation with the Right to the Streets movement between May 2023 and February 2024. Listen to the podcast here.
Initially focusing on initiating the movement in summer 2023, the second Right to the Street series shared our learnings as the campaign grew across North Trafford.
Meanwhile, the Martyn Hett Inspiring Manchester Award is named after Martyn, one of the 21 people who tragically lost their lives in the 2017 Manchester bombing.
The Award recognises any activity that reflects our great city and its people and purpose – anything that reflects the city and its true spirit.
Right to the Streets is a movement to make streets, parks, and public spaces safe, joyful, and welcoming places where everyone is invited to be active and move about freely.
Awards are judged by a panel of leaders from both industry bodies and national and regional businesses with the winners to be announced on Wednesday 16 October at Midland Hotel.
Strategic Director, and GM Moving podcast host, Eve Holt, said:
“We’re thrilled to be nominated for two awards, it was a huge effort from the partnership team as we took a whole-system approach to tackling violence against women and girls in public spaces.
“We’re continuing to see the ripples from the movement we started over 12 months ago which is fantastic because there’s so many learnings which can be shared.
“I had so much fun with Vic putting the podcast together and we have two amazing series full of content which we hope will continue to inspire change for many years to come.”
Executive producer from MIC media, Vic Elizabeth Turnbull, added:
“The Right to the Streets series of The GM Moving Podcast were quite the undertaking with over 125 voices featuring in the final versions after 36 recording sessions and hours of raw audio.
“I’m so proud of the final product which educates, demystifies the problem, and – most importantly – highlights solutions which people are already implementing.
“It really does show the incredible power of audio as a medium to take people on a journey and how podcasts can be a real force for positive change.”
