Transitioning from the long jump board to the GM Moving board, Abigail’s world-class skills and experience will help us to take our work to new heights!
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Abigail Irozuru to the GM Moving board!
With over 20 years of experience in elite athletics, Abigail brings a unique perspective and a deep passion for promoting physical activity and well-being within the community.
As a former Team GB Olympic long jumper, Abigail has represented Great Britain on some of the world’s biggest stages, including the Olympics, Worlds, European Championships, and Commonwealth Games. Her journey through sport to get to that level has equipped her with invaluable insights into the challenges and triumphs athletes face, particularly regarding inclusivity and access to sport.
Abigail has previously collaborated with partners on youth sports initiatives in Manchester, witnessing first-hand the positive impact of promoting grassroots participation on individuals and communities.
Abigail’s professional journey extends beyond athletics. She is currently pursuing her MBA at the Alliance Manchester Business School, where she is honing her skills in leadership and business management. Alongside her studies, she works as a keynote speaker and private tutor, using her experience to inspire others and advocate for the importance of education and personal development.
New GM Moving Trustee, Abigail Irozuru, said:
"As a proud Manchester native, Team GB Olympian, and burgeoning businesswoman, I am honoured to be joining the GM Moving board of trustees because of the opportunity to learn, grow and contribute alongside such a diverse, erudite, impactful group.
Through my own experiences, mentorship, and coaching I have seen first-hand the power of sport and physical activity to transform lives, so I am excited to support the board to create more inclusive, accessible opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to stay active, driving lasting change and improving the quality of life for all of my hometown’s residents."
Throughout her career, Abigail has demonstrated a strong commitment to mentorship, particularly for women in business and young athletes. Her extensive background in coaching and programme development will contribute to GM Moving’s mission of improving health, well-being, and happiness across Greater Manchester.
Abigail’s passion extends beyond sports and business; she is also an avid reader and a lover of fitness. In her spare time, she enjoys activities such as rollerblading, indoor climbing, and gymnastics. Abigail believes in the power of community, often bringing friends and family together for meals, showcasing her belief that well-being encompasses both physical activity and social connection.
We are thrilled to have Abigail join our board and are confident that her experience, enthusiasm, and dedication will greatly benefit our initiatives.
