The latest Active Lives results published by Sport England shows that 70.4% of adults in Tameside are active for at least 30 minutes a week, this equates to 127,300 adults moving. This is a decrease of 5,300 from the survey 12 months ago.
The latest Active Lives Release, May 2019/20, has seen an increase (3.2%) in the inactive population in Tameside in the last 12 months. Tameside has seen the percentage of people moving, active for at least 30 minutes a week, increase by 0.9% since Active Lives began (November 2015/16), in comparison Greater Manchester as a whole has increased the moving population by 0.5% in the same time period.
When this latest release is combined with activity data on children and young people, 148,200 Tameside residents are moving.

The largest inactivity gap amongst adults in Tameside is the age gap with a 31.6% gap, the smallest is the gender gap with a 0.6% gap.
The inactivity gender gap in Tameside is 0.6%. This has been driven by a decrease in inactivity amongst women (-1.8%) and an increase in inactivity amongst men (+0.1%).
The inactivity socio-economic gap in Tameside is 17.5%. This change is due to an increase in inactivity amongst lower social groups (+2.4%) and decrease in inactivity amongst higher social groups (-0.8%).
The inactivity disability gap in Tameside is 19.1%. This change is due to an increase in inactivity amongst those with no long term limiting disabilities (+1.1%) and a large decrease amongst those with a long term limiting disability (-7.7%).
The inactivity age gap in Tameside is 31.6%. This change is a result of a larger increase in inactivity amongst 16 to 34 year olds (+0.6%) than amongst over 75's (+0.4%).
Overall, the highest levels of inactivity in Tameside are amongst the over 75's (53.0%), those with long term limiting disabilities (44.4%) and those who are retired (40.3%). The lowest levels of inactivity are in higher social groups (20.8%), 16 to 34 year olds (21.4%) and those working full or part time (23.8%).
