Excitement is building for the GM Walking Festival 2024 with more than 350 walks submitted to be part of the festivities throughout May.

A stacked programme of walking and wheeling events, which aligns with National Walking Month, has been created thanks to communities across Greater Manchester.

Walks will appear on GM Walking's Festival Routes webpage from early April so that individuals, groups, organisations, councils, and health settings can promote local events.

Marketing support is available via the GM Moving Resource Hub which contains print-at-home posters, social media graphics, and walking/wheeling imagery.

Further borough-specific flyers and additional print-at-home posters to advertise the festival will be made available later in April.

Everyone is invited to be part of the GM Walking Festival with a variety of routes available to suit all confidence and ability levels and taking place at a variety of locations, times, and days.

In addition to National Walking Month, the walking festival also takes place alongside Mental Health Awareness Week (13-19 May) and Walk to School Week (20-24 May).

It’s hoped the festival will build on the growing momentum around walking and wheeling in Greater Manchester as more residents discover the joy of everyday moving.

Festival organiser from GM Moving, Imogen Halls, said:

“We have been overwhelmed by the number of individuals and groups who want to be part of the GM Walking Festival this year.

“After two years of covid interruptions, we had 300 walks in 2023 and are delighted to have more than 350 walking and wheeling events taking place for 2024.

“Now it’s all about spreading the word and ensuring that as many people across Greater Manchester know that they’re invited to be part of it.

“We look forward to working with communities and partners to make this the biggest and best GM Walking Festival yet and support walking and wheeling beyond May.”
