The latest Active Lives results published by Sport England shows that 64.6% of adults in Wigan are active for at least 30 minutes a week, this equates to 172,500 adults moving. This is a decrease of 18,700 from 12 months ago.
The latest Active Lives data shows that there has been a significant decline in activity levels across Wigan in the last 12 months. 64.6% of adults in Wigan are now moving (active and fairly active), this equates to 172,500 adults. Since Active Lives launched, November 2015-16, the inactivity rate has increased by 2.8%, meanwhile in Greater Manchester the rate has increased by 2.6%.
When this latest release is combined with activity data on children and young people, 201,800 Wigan residents are moving.

The inactivity gender gap in Wigan is 6.7%Since November 15/16 the gender gap has decreased by 2.3%. This change is due to a larger increase in inactivity amongst men (+4.0%) than women (+1.7%). |

The inactivity socio-economic gap in Wigan is 28.8%Since November 15/16 the socio-economic gap has increased by 11.8%. This is a result of a decrease in inactivity amongst higher socio-economic groups, NS-SEC 1-2, (-4.6%) and an increase in inactivity amongst lower socio-economic groups, NS-SEC 6-8 (+7.2%). The inactivity age gap in Wigan is 26.6%Since November 15/16 the age gap has decreased by 18.8%. This change is due to a decrease in inactivity amongst over 75's (-4.7%) and an increase in inactivity amongst 16 to 34 year olds (+14.2%). |
